the kingdoms
march, y1 (spring)
The harsh winter has passed and given way to a mild spring. The north remains frigid and cold and the south remains starved of water, but the extreme temperatures and storms are slowly beginning to subside. Vegetation is beginning to grow where once it was too cold, and the rains are returning to the deserts previously plagued with wintry drought.

welcome to isfera

Isfera was once a peaceful country. Lion kingdoms ruled separately, blissfully unaware of each other’s existence, separated by natural landmarks such as vast oceans, large mountains, and endless deserts. Lions freely practiced magic in their holds, and were given freedoms by their elected leaders, a long withstanding decree given by the Goddesses in order to maintain the peace. There were many eras of amity, with the benevolent Goddesses Danica, representative of day, and Livana, representative of night, feeding off of magic used for the good of others. They used this energy to replenish theirs, fueling the warmth of the sun, and the pull of the moon and the ocean’s tides. They had shaped their world in their version of a paradise, and the creatures that dwelled within it reaped the benefits of their mighty power. But their placidity would not last long. Danica and Livana had broken off from their immortal realm to found their world, terrified by the chaos and terror the King of Gods, Daivat. They had grown disgusted and afraid of the way his creations waged war on one another, destroying each other, only for Daivat to eat their souls. In order to escape his tyranny, Danica and Livana disappeared into the black ether where they could not be traced, and created their own tiny world where they hoped to kindle a great happiness.

Peace would not last. Daivat grew angry and jealous that his two Goddesses had left him and the rest of his ilk, and when he finally grew strong enough, he set out to find them. Only when he finally searched the corners of the universe did he see the bright little world Danica and Livana had created. Daivat did not wage war on the Goddesses. It would be too easy for him to defeat the two Goddesses who had expended so much of their own power to escape him in the first place. Rather, he sent his Champion to their mortal realm, an ethereal disguised as a lion named Rowtag. With magic far more powerful than any living lions, Rowtag was able to tear down the mountain barriers and dry up the oceans that had separated the Kingdoms. For the first time since the birth of the world, the cultures that had once been so carefully separated now began to meet each other for the first time.

Many lions lost their lives to the earthquakes, floods, and fires. Even the greatest magicians could not stop the peril Rowtag had caused. In the wake of the terrible calamity, the Kingdoms could do nothing but put the blame on each other. Wars began to break out, and the Goddesses took notice, but it was already too late. Daivat had snuck upon them in the chaos and had fettered them. The nights grew darker, and the days grew colder, as bot the sun and moon were weakened. The lions who had worshipped both Goddesses for so long had begun to one usurped the other, fueling the war even more, tearing apart Kingdoms from within. Those who had once practiced magic for good now used it for evil. Prey began to grow scarce, famine scarred the lands, and the tides of the seas ceased to return, the blood-red sky an ever-present reminder of their shattered peace. And worst of all: Rowtag has begun to amass an army of his own, poisoning the Kingdoms will false hope and knowledge in hopes of tearing them asunder.

state of the world

Our story begins two years after the destruction of Livana and Danica. While the country of Isfera is still otherwise somewhat separate from each other, Kingdoms are now aware of each other’s presences, and the devestation of the years prior finally seem to be falling away. Earthquakes, tsunamis, massive storms, and wildfires are no longer as common as they once were; however, with the weakened states of the sun and moon, the tides no longer come in as far as they did, and the nights are nearly pitch black; the sun is not powerful enough to continue to feed the lush forests, and so many places that were once overgrown and lush are now slowly withering. The aftermath of the disasters are still felt around the world, with once-great monuments now fallen, and homes destroyed. It is not unlikely for lions to have lost close ones, gone missing, or gotten injured during the events. The feeling settling on Isfera is uncertainty, and for some, betrayal. How could their Goddesses have lied to them for so long?

Rowtag has begun his conquest in the northeast, at the southern tip of the Bridgewater Expanse. Here, he has begun to take advantage of the civil unrest. He has steadily begun to amass followers, corrupting their minds and their magic with ideas that Daivat is the new God, and through him may the world be saved and country be separated once more. Preying on hurting hearts and aggressive tension, Rowtag steadily begins to grow his armies, but is relatively unknown and unnoticed by the rest of the world. Now with many different cultures and Kingdoms meeting for the first time, there is too much social disruption to notice the threat in the north, as those who vie for power amidst the chaos take advantage. Smaller nomadic groups meet large kingdoms, and traditions and cultures are challenged against one another like never before.

Danica and Livana can only helplessly watch from above, biding their time, and hoping desperately that a Champion might soon rise from the ashes of Daivat’s destruction.
