march, y1 (spring)
The harsh winter has passed and given way to a mild spring. The north remains frigid and cold and the south remains starved of water, but the extreme temperatures and storms are slowly beginning to subside. Vegetation is beginning to grow where once it was too cold, and the rains are returning to the deserts previously plagued with wintry drought.

Down to the beach she was strolling, where the mildly warm afternoon sun was shimmering on the foam-peaked waves that were rolling in. The sea was calm today, which Kailua was happy to see. For weeks now, the weather had been pretty nasty -- the winter air from the mountainous north had clashed with the warmer, sweeter air of the southern ocean, and from their union, storm after storm had rumbled across the land. Finally though, winter had started to recede with the approach of spring, and the sea was serene again.

The sea-nymph hummed a mindless, utterly meaningless tune to herself as she stepped onto the shore of gritty sand and smooth stone with a pep in her bouncy step, her short fur bristling all the way down her neck and spine. The poor weather had kept her from the sea for longer than she was used to, and feeling the sand beneath her paws, inhaling the salty wind that carried the sea mist in to dampen her cheeks ..

She was positively thrilled!

A wild grin broke across her muzzle like a flash of lightning -- sudden and blinding. Kailua took off, dashing down the shoreline to meet the sea, her heart soaring like a seagull on the breeze. She was more at comfortable in the water than in the forest, and after being away from it for what may as well have been forever in her silly little heart, it felt good to be home!

Too excited to contain herself, the sea-nymph chirped shrilly into the wind as she bounced her way closer and closer to the water.

Asisde from the icy beaches and sheer cliffs of the very northern tip of the continent, Bengal had never truly set foot on a beach. Today, the gentle winds and smell of salt redirected his soaring path over the landscape and he decided, fickle and fascinated, to investigate. Dry sand flurries up from his wingbeats as he gentle settles onto the soft surface, testing out the texture with stretching claws. The rush of the ocean turns his broad head left and he peers out at the water, not sure where sand ended and ocean began.

A sudden series of chirrups and paws on sand snapped his focus back ahead and he notices the tiny, tiny lioness leaping toward the water's edge. She was a third of his size at least, and he was quick to assume she was a cub. Callosus youth often were such a size, and he had forgotten how small other species of lion could be. The noises amuse him, unfamiliar with bird calls or cats who made such sounds. What was so exciting about the water? Pale brow lifted as he mulled over the scene. Bengal usually only liked water when it was the frozen variety, so it was baffling.

"You look like you're having fun!" he rumbles warmly, projecting his voice over the rush of the water. The man was convinced Kailua was a young teen that had gotten lost. Regardless, he was here to lend a hand or in the very least make sure she was okay before he continued his travels.

Before she could reach the water and send herself hurdling head-first into the surf, a warm rumble called above the hiss of the ocean spray, and Kailua came to a skidding, stumbling stop, her paws spraying sand and kicking pebbles. Behind her, her tail gave a curious and almost excited twist as she turned around, those wide eyes of her searching for the source -- who was there?

He was pretty hard to miss, given how utterly massive and striking he was. The beast she saw was an absolutely behemoth, and his colors reminded her of the beach -- white sand and sunshine. Seriously though, he was huge, and a small twinge of uncertainty pricked her. If she'd been in the sea, she would've felt safer -- she was much more comfortable in the water -- but on open land, she hesitated.

As big as he was, he didn't seem like an immediate threat, and his voice had sounded nice enough. He looked pretty friendly, she supposed! Overcoming her slight, brief unease, the sea-nymph turned around, away from the sea, to smile at the bigger sky-creature without the slightest hint of fear. Just like that, Kailua was over it.

"Hey, big fella!" she called back, a wide smile stretching across her muzzle. "You comin' down for a swim too, or what?" Because she was having fun! Well, she'd starting really having fun once she was in the water -- once she was home! -- but what about him? Was he looking to get his paws what too, or was he just enjoying the view?
